Global SIM card users can be happy about this bit of news, especially if you don’t use an international GSM service exclusively (or if you just like collecting SIM cards like you collect baseball cards).

LG is attempting to take some of Nokia’s thunder in Russia. As if two SIM cards weren’t enough, the LG A290 is set to feature three SIM cards.

While there have been quad-SIM phones manufactured, it will be interesting to see if the first triple-SIM from one of the major players in the international telecom industry will sell well enough to be released in other markets.

The 113.5 x 51 x 12.95mm LG A290 features a 2.2-inch display @ 176×220 pixels, a 1.3-megapixel camera with flashlight, and a 1500 mAh battery. It is not known whether all three SIM cards will be active at the same time, but one can see the usefulness in doing so if you frequently use a roaming SIM for international travel and in addition, you have your local provider.

The A290 should be arriving in Russia by late February.
