BB10Jam, BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour, Tru VoIP Application

Truphone (specifically Truphone’s James Body and Adam Linford) and Research in Motion have been on tour for awhile now, showing off the new Tru Application on RIM’s BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour. Their latest stop was in London, where the duo of companies showed off the upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS — which promises to “impact mobile productivity, gaming, socializing and more” — and the latest VoIP application that many have been waiting a very long time for indeed.

The new Tru App promises to achieve what its predecessors did not. Tru to Tru calling on BlackBerry and Android can be assumed at this point, and the application will focus on lowering international roaming charges similar to Tru SIM, and will be able to be used over both mobile networks and Wi-Fi. Could this be the start of Tru’s attempt to join the two services into one platform?

“Wi-Fi offloading and other OTT services [are reaching] the tipping point to become the business traveler’s must-have options for reliable, global and cost-effective communications”

“Truphone’s BlackBerry 10 application will be the product of two things: Our leadership in being first to market on new platforms, and RIM’s visionary approach in developing a platform that’s developer-friendly,” Adam Linford said. “Our new BlackBerry solution will debut at a time when Wi-Fi offloading and other OTT services begin to reach the tipping point to become the business traveler’s must-have options for reliable, global and cost-effective communications.”

In fact, the app will launch alongside the BlackBerry 10 OS, making it the first VoIP app available on the new platform. No word yet on when the Android and iOS versions will be released (or if a Windows Phone 8 version is even being planned at this point), but it’s doubtful they’ll be too far off the release date of the BlackBerry 10 version.

If you’re a developer and you missed the shindig in London on June 14th, don’t fret; you’ll have your chance again on June 26th when the BB10 Jam World Tour makes its scheduled stop in Moscow, Russia, and from there to Berlin, Germany on June 28th.
