Amazon Phone, Amazon Smartphone, Amazon Rumor

Here’s something many global SIM and messaging app users may (or may not) want if it proves true. The Kindle Fire tablet has been Amazon’s flagship device since its release, but the company may be looking at doing an Android-powered smartphone according to Bloomberg and their ever infamous “people with knowledge of the matter.”

The rumors center around a purported chase for wireless patents (likely so Amazon can fight off the kinds of challenges currently faced by companies like Samsung and HTC when going up against the behemoth patent-snatching Apple) and a partnership with Foxconn for manufacturing.

There’s no details yet on what the device could be like or when it will arrive. Still, it’s worth noting that these aren’t the first smartphone rumors to have ever centered around the online service company. The Vizio Phone that was rumored way back in 2011 never saw the light of day.

Amazon, of course, declined to comment on the matter.

Still, if any company has the infrastructure, the resources, and the customer numbers to do it, it’s Amazon. Services like their app store, their streaming video and music services, and of course Kindle could make for one of the best integrated smartphones on the market. The question is, would consumers go for it?
