We first heard about Nokia looking to acquire Scalado’s “world-class imaging specialists” way back in June as part of the company’s market shakeup strategy. After just over a month, that acquisition looks to be finalized.
Along with a nice portfolio of technology and intellectual property associated with the acquistion, Nokia also announced that around 50 of the aforementioned “world-class imaging specialists” have joined the ranks of their mobile imaging department. The imaging specialist’s co-founder, Sami Niemi, who will now head up the Capture and Relive section of Smart Devices at Nokia, said: “The technologies and competences we’ve developed should help move from taking photos to capturing memories and emotions.”
For Tru users, this could be a sign of better cameras being built into Windows Phone and Symbian devices for those long business trips or vacations overseas (Nokia PureView anyone?). We’re always up for packing less!

Acquisition aims to bring outstanding imaging experiences to Nokia Lumia smartphones
Espoo, Finland and Lund, Sweden: Nokia announced today that it has completed the acquisition of all technologies and intellectual property from Scalado AB, originally announced on June 14, 2012. As part of the transaction, approximately 50 world-class imaging specialists transferred to Nokia.

The Nokia team is already responsible for many leading innovations in mobile imaging and, together with the experts from Scalado, we aim at astonishing the world with new, outstanding imaging experiences.”
Lund has now become a key site for Nokia’s imaging software for smartphones, in addition to Nokia’s existing locations in Espoo and Tampere, Finland.
