ICS, Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.0, Accessories Google Play

LG Optimus 2X owners will have to buy a new device in order to enjoy Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sweetness on their devices. Despite claims to the contrary, it turns out that LG has indeed shelved any hope for ICS to come to the device.

This news comes from LG Canada’s Twitter stream, which states that “the Optimus 2X will not be receiving the ICS upgrade. The original upgrade announcement was a general statement issued from HQ.” It’s not at all clear what LG means by a “general statement,” but its previous announcement was pretty straightforward.

Most in the tech world isn’t very surprised over this one. The LG Optimus 2X is an aging device — well over a year old — and had initially been shipped powered by Android 2.2 Froyo. Still, for owners absolutely devoted to their Optimus 2X, this news comes as a blow.

Were you looking forward to the ICS upgrade? Let us know in the comments!
