Let's Connect Application, Virtual SIM by Truphone, Save on International Roaming Costs

With roughly one week under our belts since the announcement of “Let’s Connect” — Truphone’s Virtual SIM service — at the DEMO conference, many are wondering what the ins and outs of the Virtual SIM are and how they will benefit customers.

First of all, what is the Virtual SIM/Let’s Connect app? The Virtual SIM is exactly what it implies: in a nutshell, it is an application that allows you to choose the operator you use when you’re at home or abroad (assuming of course you have a SIM card that is compatible with the new Truphone technology), which in turn allows you to purchase a data, text, or voice package for that country and save money on roaming costs. It works OTA (over the air) so you do not have to worry about calling customer service or going online or in a store to make any changes should you decide to do so. Of course, these will also be an option.

Think of it as a companion application that helps you keep more control over your expenses and your life — much like Onavo, only instead of setting limits on usage, the Virtual SIM lets you choose the best option for both operator and package so that usage limits are no longer an obstacle.

So what does it mean for customers? Well the most obvious answer to this question is the lower costs you will undoubtedly experience. If you’re like me and you use Truphone almost every day, the cost differences can be substantial. From what we’ve seen and heard of the Virtual SIM, it is also seamless and fast, always a plus for those who don’t want to spend a lot of time and effort making any changes to their accounts. Most importantly, it keeps you connected to those who matter most and ensures that you have that connection no matter where in the world you are.
