Viber VoIP and Messaging, Mobile Calling Apps, Messaging Applications

Now that both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7 have Viber with VoIP capabilities, the popular VoIP and messaging app is turning it sights to BlackBerry. We first heard about Viber voice for the BlackBerry platform a few months ago, and as promised, the voice feature is coming in April.

Viber has pushed out an update for BlackBerry users to version 2.4 of the Viber app which rolls out the free voice calls to BlackBerry users for the first time. Initially, the update will be available in beta, but will be released in non-beta form probably within the next month or two according to our sources.

“BlackBerry is one of the most important markets for us and represents our third largest user base,” said Viber CEO Talmon Marco in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring this community free voice calling, letting them communicate freely with all of their important contacts across multiple platforms.”

There is, of course, a catch: the beta feature is compatible with BlackBerry OS 5 and OS 7 over both Wi-Fi and 3G networks, but not OS 6 due to the same OS limitations we’ve mentioned before and not for BB10, which we did verify in an earlier exclusive interview with Viber CEO Talmon Marco was on its way.

If you happen to be running one of the aforementioned older BB devices and you simply cannot wait for the official version, you can download the beta directly from Viber’s website.
