Nokia Lumia, Windows Phone 8 smartphone, WP8 phone

The GDR2 update, presumably the next update for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS, is nigh, or at least should be very soon according to new information. It’s been unclear, though, as to when exactly the update would show up, until now.

According to a representative from Australian carrier Telstra’s Products and Services Team, the GDR2 update for Windows Phone 8 is expected to go into testing by mid-May with a rollout to begin in the weeks that follow.

The new update will bring a few small features to WP8 users according to WMPU, including FM Radio support and “double tap to activate.”

There doesn’t appear to be much else to the new update, at least that we can see right now. It seems that Microsoft has opted to save its major changes and feature additions for its Windows Blue upgrade which will be releasing for both WP8 and Windows 8 tablets and computers later this year.
