LINE App, Android, iOS

Games and messaging didn’t seem like they went together in mobile apps, at least untilLine became the first VoIP and messaging app to introduce games way back in July 2012, followed later by KakaoTalk and Tango. Viber’s CEO also recently told us of an intent to monetize the app without ads.

Now it’s hard to imagine life without Line Pop. In fact the game service has become quite popular, as demonstrated by today’s announcement by LINE, which announced that more than 150 million downloads of games have occurred on its platform — 50 million in the last three months — and three days after LINE Play reached 9 million. The app also crossed 150 million total users in early May.

Currently there are 33 games available, an increase of 16 new games in 90 days. LINE Pop has been the most popular with 30 million total downloads, while LINE Wind has amassed 10 million. To celebrate these milestones, the company is holding events to give away free stickers and virtual coins through both games, similar to the gems event.

If you would like to participate in these events, be sure to get LINE Pop and LINE Wind downloaded on your device. Who knows? You might just find yourself gaming more than messaging through LINE from now on.
