Skype on Xbox, Xbox One, Xbox Live Gold Membership

If you’re looking to boot up Skype to enjoy through your Xbox One video game system, you’ll have to shell out the dough for an Xbox Live Gold membership first.

That’s according to a list of features shown above that may or may not turn into another PR nightmare like the one suffered earlier this summer when the Xbox One system was first unveiled. We already knew the Skype group calling service would be included, but what we didn’t know was that Gold would be required to use Skype itself, until now.

Skype is not able to be used on Xbox 360 gaming systems even with a Gold membership.

Of course, as you can see above, other features such as multiplayer gaming and entertainment apps are included in the membership as well, so it may be worth footing the bill, especially if Microsoft continues to discount its gaming systems as an incentive to subscribe. For those who aren’t necessarily gamers and only want to utilize the VoIP and messaging app to make and receive calls, is it worth the fees?
