Right on schedule. Earlier this month, we reported on Tencent’s WeChat 5.0 for iOS and advised Android users that they wouldn’t have long to wait for an update. Well, the wait is over.
WeChat 5.0 brings the Sticker Shop, and “loads” of new animated stickers for your downloading pleasure. Stickers are a perfect way of sharing your mood, making a friend smile, or just being goofy (Oni & Bugi anyone?). The stickers will set you back about ¥6.00.
In addition to the stickers, WeChat also rolled out the ability for users to save favorite content clippings from chats or Moments, add friends nearby easily with the new Hold Together function, and makes it easier to clean your conversation pallet and navigate your conversations. Swipe to the left to delete a conversation. Double tap the Chats tab to cycle through unread chats.
No word yet on when games will be added to the mix.
The new version of WeChat can be downloaded directly via the Google Play store.
