Common Viber Contact Sync Issues on iOS and Android and Ways to Overcome Them

One of the most common problems people have with Viber on iOS and Android are syncing problems. That is, getting your address book to show up as Viber users if they have an account and are currently utilizing the app for calling and messaging. Luckily, there are also quite a few things users can do to fix these types of issues without the need to uninstall and reinstall the app.

Of course, before you begin troubleshooting the issues, you should make sure you’re using the latest version of Viber.

One of the most likely reasons these issues occur is a failed or poor connection to the internet. Syncing contacts from an external data source such as a cloud storage source is also known to cause issues. Once you’ve downloaded the app and signed in, if you don’t see your Viber contacts immediately populate, check your internet connection. You might also try manually reconnecting your device to the data source, whether it be WiFi or a mobile network, closing and reopening Viber, or even doing a complete reboot of your device. Very often, doing these steps can fix the issue, regardless of the phone model you have.

It’s important to note that both you and your contact need to have the right phone number saved in your address books to be seen as a Viber user. A different phone number will not be seen in Viber until it’s manually added into your device’s address book.

With Viber for Android, you can push the Menu button and tap on Update Contacts. Select Home to allow the app to run in the background and within an hour, your Viber contacts should be updated correctly. For iPhone devices, you can open Viber once, close it completely and let it manually update over time.

If you’ve already performed those steps or don’t want to wait, you can try sending the contact in question an invite via Viber using the correct phone number or try deleting and re-adding the contact. You can also call your contact’s mobile number directly via the Viber app (not your device’s native dial pad). In all of these cases, be sure you have an active data connection and you’re including the country code in the phone number with the “+” included at the beginning. An example of a US phone number would be +1-000-000-0000 or a UK phone number 0141 000 000 (here’s a list of more country codes).

    M using this account for last 2 years. My viber suddenly is not synchronizing the contacts.
    Though sync is on and contacts are their in my phone. Tried restarting
    and updated version. Still not showing any Viber contacts. Moreover, if
    I’m trying to contact anyone whose msgs are already inbox, in his/her
    profile it’s showing “Invite to Viber”.
    Can anyone please suggest me what should I do now ?

    Hi, I’m having the problem with Viber on tablet.
    There are some contacts in tablet, but Viber can’t recognise them. I tried to add them to Viber, but there is no option. I tried to get a phone call from certain contact, so I could add it this way, but still no option for it, no matter I can see all the details of that person. I tried to send a message, but message disappeared from screen. What’s the problem?

    my friend blocked my id before but now its unblocked..he swiched from samsung to iphone7 recently! he can send msg and call me through viber but i cant..it show he is not in viber! i delete..add again ..reinstall..and everything i have done..still the same issue! please help
