Skype blog, Skype hacked, Skype hacking

We remember when the Syrian Electronic Army hacked Viber support merely two days after Tango’s site was also hacked and the group is now turning its attention toward Skype in its latest attack.

The group just hacked Skype’s blog and twitter accounts, spreading anti-NSA and anti-Microsoft messages in the process. The SEA was also able to get into Skype’s official Facebok account, but their messages have since been deleted. As of this writing, attempting to access the Skype blogs redirects to the Skype home page and it appears that the SEA still controls the company’s blog and Twitter.

New revelations over spying led to the latest round of attacks

Some of the messages being posted on the social networks and the blogs included:

“Don’t use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments.”

“Hacked by Syrian Electronic Army.. Stop Spying!”

These messages were reportedly up for over 40 minutes before they were deleted.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the NSA could eavesdrop on Skype video calls, completely invalidating Microsoft’s previous claims that the service was secure. It’s possible that other technology companies are being targeted as well after last weeks’s revelations about the NSA’s reach.

Microsoft and Skype have yet to comment on the hacking.
