Rebtel, Voice Over IP, Messaging App

Free messaging between users has become a common way for calling and messaging applications to gain and retain users in a very highly-competitive industry. Now Rebtel is also looking to follow suit.

Rebtel’s new “Chat” feature, available now on iOS and Android, delivers free instant messaging to all Rebtel users for the first time, expanding from the free calling the application had allowed before. Chat is arguably the biggest change we’ve seen in the Rebtel application since the addition of Rebtel’s mobile top-up feature late last year.

Rebtel users can now take advantage of free instant messaging to other Rebtel users

For iPhone users, the Chat feature is the only change made with version 3.5. Android users, however, can also take advantage of a new widget allows users to create speed dial icons, enabling them to call friends with Rebtel directly from their home screens. Bug fixes and stability improvements also made their way to the Android version.

There’s no indication as to when these changes (and the many others made to the app in the past few months) will show up in Windows Phone, but hopefully Rebtel will allow the growing WP masses to take advantage of these features soon. In the meantime, the new Rebtel can be downloaded via Google Play and iTunes.
