Viber, Nokia X, Nokia Android phones

If the announcement of BBM coming to Windows Phone wasn’t enough to get you excited, the company had a little more to offer its fans, specifically those who are interested in the Nokia X and Nokia X+ Android phones. In addition to Skype, the low-cost smartphones will come pre-installed with a special version of Viber in an exclusive partnership between Viber and Nokia. This new version of the popular calling app will be available immediately in the Nokia Store.

“Working with Nokia is a natural step towards bringing Viber to all platforms”

“This strategic partnership will help us provide Nokia users with a great messaging and calling experience enhanced with photo sharing, stickers and other Viber functionality,” said Talmon Marco, CEO of Viber. “Working with Nokia is a natural step towards bringing Viber to all platforms including Windows Phone and S40, providing users with the complete Viber experience.”

“We believe that great innovation is enhanced through applications, therefore we made sure to offer many of the most popular applications on our new Nokia X family of devices,” said Bryan Biniak, Vice President, Developer Experiences at Nokia. “We worked closely with the Viber team and provided them with a clear path to get their app optimized for the Nokia X software platform. With Nokia X we are bringing Viber’s messaging and calling features to new markets and audiences.”

Viber has been pushing itself onto many platforms lately and was recently acquired by Japan’s Rakuten. With the Nokia X, it ensures free calling and messaging will be available to any who choose to embrace Nokia’s first foray into the AOSP world.
