BBM, BlackBerry Messenger, BB Messenger

Nevermind the fact that BBM could be sold or spun off; for now, BBM is right at home with the Canadian company. In fact, BlackBerry has decided to give its BB10 iteration a bit of a boost in an upcoming version.

BlackBerry’s Jeff Gadway has confirmed a number of improvements that will be present in the app’s upcoming release, including stickers and the ability to send larger files over BBM.

“you’ll be able to send bigger pictures, larger documents and longer videos”

The file transfer limit will be raised to 16MB from the 6MB that’s currently available in BlackBerry World:

“What this means is that you’ll be able to send bigger pictures, larger documents and longer videos. For example, the 6MB transfer limit today allows you to send 6 seconds of 1080p HD video (recorded on a BlackBerry Z30 smartphone). With the increase to 16MB, you will be able to send 16 seconds of video using the same settings.”

Emoticons are also getting a boost … in size, though Gadway notes this increase is only a “slight” one, but one that was made after user feedback.

Photo sharing via group chats rounds out the list of new additions.

Gadway assures users that the company is “listening carefully to the feedback users are providing” and is looking at the fan forums and support pages “closely” for more. This includes versions currently available for iOS and Android and so will also include the upcoming version for Windows Phone as well.
