magicJack, free U.S. calls, VoIP calling software

Skype, Viber, and other apps may have stolen the VoIP spotlight, but magicJack wants to take its mobile communications solution to the next level.

To that end, magicJack has just appointed Anthony Russo, who recently directed global mobile strategy and app development for iOS and Android at Vonage, as vice president of mobile. He’ll lead the ongoing expansion of magicJack’s ‘over the top’ mobile communications solution, reporting to Timothy McDonald, magicJack’s chief operating officer (COO).

“The magicJack voice app is an important part of our growth strategy as we continue to enhance our unique at home and on the go voice service,” said McDonald. “The addition of Anthony to the management team helps us to ensure magicJack’s ongoing growth as the preferred over-the-top mobile voice provider. His unique combination of mobile and VoIP expertise will help take the magicJack mobile offering to the next level.”

Prior to his role at Vonage, Russo held a number of product and sales roles at AT&T Mobility and Cingular Wireless, which included launching the first U.S. carrier-branded VoIP app, AT&T Call International.

magicJack is available for download via iOS and Android.
