KakaoTalk on Android, messaging apps, free text and calls

Version 4.5.0 of KakaoTalk for Android is now available. The new update brings a number of new features, fixes, and improvements and ranks as the biggest update we’ve seen to the app on Google’s platform in quite some time.

Version 4.5.0 contains the following changes:

  • Search your chats from the chatroom
  • Added Kakao Lab menu
  • Receive alerts for keywords you have set
  • See unread chatrooms at the top of the chatrooms list
  • Send up to 20 photos at once
  • Support for Arabic
  • Other bug fixes and stability improvements

Back in March, a “do not disturb function was added to the application, which was the first major update to the Android version this year. Indeed, Kakao has been concentrating more on the PC version of its app as of late.

Kakao’s Game subscriptions surpassed 500 million subscribers in mid-May as KakaoTalk continues to grow despite heavy competition from the likes of WeChat and LINE in its home turf. The impending merger with Daum could help this growth continue since it will likely result in a streamlined search feature in the app.
