WeChat, VoIP and messaging, free chat apps

If you’ve been wanting to chat with your friends on your iPad a little easier, you can now thanks to the latest update of Tencent’s WeChat app, which brings the Apple tablet to the forefront with full compatibility. Version 5.4 will let you chat on both the iPhone and the iPad at the same time and also brings some UI improvements and bug fixes to make the experience even better.

When you have installed WeChat 5.4 on your iPad, open it and then select “Use on Phone and iPad. Then you simply go to your phone, tap on Discover and then tap Scan QR Code. Finally simply scan the QR code that’s displayed on your iPhone screen with your iPad.

The new update also brings a Last Read Message Bookmark to Apple devices so you’ll never have to worry about losing track of where you are in your hustling and bustling social life. After 10 or more messages, you’ll get a “New Messages” notification from WeChat. Tap on this notification to be taken to the beginning of your messages. This could be a lifesaver if you have a lot of friends to keep track of on WeChat that constantly send you messages.

Finally, the new update also includes a new QR Code Recognition feature that can recognize a photo and a QR code image. While this may seem like a small change, it could nevertheless help make the ability to add contacts via QR code a lot more seamless. Access this feature by opening the QR code image in WeChat, long pressing it, and selecting Identify the image QR code.
