WhatsApp, WhatsApp on iOS7, WhatsApp Messenger

WhatsApp has rolled out a major update to its iPhone app today, and despite the tiny bump in the version number, it actually includes quite a few changes. Most of the changes by themselves could be defined as minor, but the list of these changes in this particular update is quite long.

Version 2.11.9 brings the ability to archive chats and groups by swiping horizontally and selecting More and then Archive. The update also adds captions to photos and videos as well as a fast camera access button for capturing and sending photos.

If you’re using an iPhone 5S, you can also share slow motion videos as well (other iPhone models won’t work with this particular feature).

However, no matter what iPhone version you have, you can also now trim videos before sharing them. Other changes consist of:

  • Share Location: add support for satellite and hybrid map views when sharing a location
  • Share Location: drop and drag pin lets you share a precise location
  • New media auto-download preferences: Settings > Chat Settings > Media Auto-Download
  • New Wallpapers: Settings > Chat Settings > Chat Wallpapers > Wallpaper Library
  • New Notification tones: Settings > Notifications
  • You can now attach screenshots when reporting problems

You can get the new WhatsApp update right now via iTunes.
