TextMe, TextMe app, free sms text

Last month, TextMe launched FreeTone, which provides free calling and text messaging to any U.S. number, and now the company has launched a brand new app that allows TextMe users to top up any prepaid account for their friends and families, even if they don’t have the TextMe app.

RechargeMe allows you to transfer minutes to your family in more than 100 countries, starting at 10 BDT refills in Bangladesh, 10 INR loads in India, 15 NGN reload in Nigeria, 20 PKR Top-Up in Pakistan, 5000 IDR pulsa in Indonesia and the 10 PHP in Philippines. The app supports 300 carriers in these 100 countries.

RechargeMe allows for free top-ups to all your favorite prepaid phone numbers along with free confirmation SMS messages to your recipient. You can also browse your transaction history.

You can sign up for the service using either your Google Account or Facebook, the latter of which also includes full integration so you can find your friends who are using the service. With Google Accounts, you can connect with your Google Plus social network “Circles.”

TextMe’s RechargeMe is very similar in functionality to Rebtel’s Sendly

The app is very similar in functionality to Sendly an app from Rebtel that we’ve covered here on TruTower before.

“The main difference with Sendly is that we offer a free service, where you earn credits and then can use your credits to send top up, while [Sendly] offers only credit card payment,” a TextMe spokesperson told TruTower by email.

TextMe is quick to point out that its solution has a wider reach since it “covers all major operator networks.” However, Sendly claims it supports “more than 400 operators in more than 100 countries” compared to TextMe’s aforementioned “300 carriers in 100 countries” so you might find more success with Sendly for the time being.

Still, it’s a new app, so it’s likely to expand quickly, and if you’re an avid TextMe or prepaid phone user, you’re sure to appreciate having the option installed on your Android smartphone or tablet. It’s always great to have a money transfer option available at our fingertips, especially when no fees are involved.

You can download RechargeMe to your Android device via Google Play. Hopefully we’ll see the app launch on iOS and Windows Phone soon.

TextMe currently has 20 million users and can be downloaded on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.
