BBM, BlackBerry Messenger, Android

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android has just been updated, adding a dynamic emoticon/sticker picker. If text has been entered the picker shows emoticons. If no text has been entered the picker shows stickers. This is very similar to a feature that’s now built into Windows Phone 8.1 and its text messaging. It’s also a feature that’s been available on iOS since October and on Windows Phone and BlackBerry 10.

Of course, the new update also includes changes we’ve seen previously, including:

  • Support for Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • Send stickers in group chats!
  • See when a contact has received and viewed your sent pictures.
  • Timed pictures and messages can now be viewed multiple times until the timer expires
  • Added a new 60 second timer option
  • Landscape mode
  • Add a photo or attachment from your SD card

BBM Emoticons, BlackBerry Messenger, Messaging apps

BlackBerry has really been doing a lot with BBM lately, and with announcement of the company losing $148 million (down from $4.4 billion last year and from $207 million in September), its a very good thing. BBM Stickers have proven to be quite popular and could lead into other monetization efforts by the company on BBM.
