Skype for Mac, Skype app, calling and messaging

Microsoft has released an update for its Skype for Apple’s Mac OS to version 7.8, bringing some enhancements to the VoIP and messaging app’s functionality and adding in some tweaks as well.

There’s no question that this is a small update; no major features were added to the software. Instead, Microsoft chose to focus on fixing a few bugs:

  • Enhanced performance for the animated GIFs
  • Resolved the issue of chat text going blur when the conversation was dragged among displays

With every new bug fix comes another bug lurking in the shadows, and this update is no exception. Users are reporting the following issues with the most recent version of the software:

  • The app crashes on MacBooks with Force Touch trackpad
  • Video stutters as soon as the Skype window is minimized

The update is currently live and can be downloaded by checking here. The update will work on OS X 10.9 or later.
