Skype Translator Preview, Skype VoIP and IM, Skype calling and messaging

Skype 7.9 was released this week for users on Mac devices. The new update doesn’t do much, but it does provide an “updated and smarter web link preview experience” according to the Skype team:

Now when you share a link and want to add some words for additional context, you can simply send everything in one message. If an image related to the link was found, a rich visual preview of the web page will be automatically displayed, so your contacts can see a preview of the shared web page with the message.

The new update for Mac can be downloaded here.

Alongside the aforementioned update, Skype has also taught its Skype Translator Preview software how to speak French and German, helping the world feel quite a bit smaller. This brings the total number of spoken languages to six – English, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Spanish – along with 50 instant messaging languages.

Skype Translator Preview can be downloaded here. Skype is also planning a desktop release this summer, though no exact release date has been finalized.
