Skype for iPhone, Skype VoIP, instant messaging apps

If you’ve been having trouble signing into Skype this morning, you’re not alone; Microsoft confirmed its popular VoIP and messaging service suffered an outage today, preventing multiple users from being able to log in.

The WSJ reports that users were experiencing several technical issues when attempting to log in, update their status, access or change contact lists and more. Contacts were also showing as offline even when they were logged in.

Microsoft confirmed the outage, but said that an update was coming. A spokesperson told the WSJ that the company is “working hard to fix an issue which is preventing some users from logging in and using Skype.” The spokesman also apologized to users for any inconveniences calls, but failed to provide a timeframe for the fix, the number of users being affected by the issue, and where the users are located.

The Skype issues seemed to have started around 2 a.m. Eastern time. The U.S., U.K., Australia and Ukraine are countries that have reported the issues.
