SIM4Travel has now been absorbed into Truphone. Truphone spent £1.34 million in cash, along with £1.3 million in shares, for the company back in April 2008.

Founded in 2004 by Simon Goff (former CEO) and Paul Buck (former Director), SIM4Travel was one of the pioneer services for global roaming SIM cards. The company offered free incoming calls in 60+ countries along with worldwide coverage. SIM4Travel also had distribution agreements with Expedia, the Carphone Warehouse, Dixons Duty Free, WHSmith, Boots, easyjet and British Airways.

The company had fewer than 50 employees at its peak and was floated on AIM for £37.4m and remained privately held even after its acquisition by Truphone.

After years of keeping the service a separate entity, Truphone shut down the SIM4Travel division on August 10th, 2013.
