Android OS, Google Operating System, Open Source App Launcher

Truphone has really been pushing their VoIP application lately, as can be seen with the recent release of the new Truphone VoIP app for Android and iOS, and their upcoming release for BlackBerry 10.

In addition, it appears that a job opening for an Android Developer has been posted at StackOverflow Careers just a few hours ago. The basic responsibilities for the position are as follows:

  • Working on any/all of our Android applications on phones and tablets
  • Working with native code.. we do our heavy lifting in C
  • Working with our Developer-in-test team to manage and maintain build and test systems
  • Working with the design team for input on UI/UX
  • Helping the Product team with setting the roadmap
  • Assisting the Android team lead in writing technical specifications, creating and managing sprints, shaping workflow (TDD? BDD?)

According to the posting, Truphone is looking for someone who meets the following requirements:

  • Minimum two years of experience as Android developer, and at least one app on the marketplace.
  • Expereinced in optimising Android layouts
  • Understands and has used AsyncTasks, Fragments, and Lazy Loading
  • Advanced Java SE experience (JDK5 +)
  • Experience integrating native code (JNI/NDK)
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • University degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge on CS theory, such as algorithms and data structures, big O Theta etc.
  • Good communication and written skills (English)

And finally, the posting also mentions some preferences for the ideal candidate:

  • Experience/knowledge in real-time communication protocols and libraries (SIP, RTP, XMPP).
  • Experience working with Linux-based operating systems.
  • Experience working with other languages
  • Post-graduate degree or qualifications.

If you’re an Android developer and you’re looking to jump-start your career, this position sounds like it could be right up your alley (assuming, of course, that you live in London or would be willing to relocate). And who knows? You could come up with the next big thing in VoIP and global communications!
