GreenTomatoCars, UK Minicab, Free Wi-Fi London

While London may be among the cities in the world who are late to the 4G LTE game, its citizens (and VoIP users) will still have an innovative, high-speed reason to feel loved as the city preps the streets with more access to Wi-Fi. The Tube’s been acquiring hotspots in preparation for the onslaught of Olympic fans expected to use public transport, and now taxis are doing the same.

The Inquirer reports that Greentomatocars, a London minicab service, is now equipping every car in its fleet with free Wi-Fi. Each cab has its own SIM that affords cab passengers up to 7.2Mbps downloads and 2Mbps uploads.

“London has long been recognised as a hub for technological innovation”

“London has long been recognised as a hub for technological innovation. In 2008 it was named the WiFi capital of the world and in 2012 I think it would be fair to say it’s now the free WiFi capital,” said Greentomatocars founder Jonny Goldstone.

In order to gain entry to this high-speed web on wheels party, you simply need to input the aptly-chosen password — ilovefreewifi — and let yourself be enveloped by the internet and your fellow VoIP application users. At least until the cab ride ends.
