It’s getting harder and harder to ignore those rumors floating around that Amazon is working on their own smartphone. This news makes it harder still.

Robert Williams, the former Director of Business Development for Microsoft’s Windows Phone, is joining Amazon as Director of the Appstore. While this could simply be a strategic move on Amazon’s part to enhance their appstore, we can’t help but feel like there’s more going on behind the curtain, especially given the aforementioned Amazon smartphone rumors.

The Amazon phone is still very much a rumor, but with more pieces of the puzzle starting to fit, coupled with Amazon’s notorious ability to turn the standards of the world on their head and innovate beyond, it’s something that very well could happen in the future and simply can’t be ruled out.
