Apple Samsung lawsuit, Android Copyright infringement, iPhone Patents

No two companies have fought harder nor as long for the wallets of consumers in the mobile market more than Samsung and Apple. The two companies have been dueling constantly for over a year, not only in sales but in court as well. As far as sales are concerned, Samsung has been the clear winner more often than not, and analysts polled by Reuters believe that lead has increased even further last quarter.

According to the 41 analysts surveyed, Samsung likely sold around 50 million smartphones in the second quarter, boosted by high demand of its Galaxy S III smartphone, a figure that easily surpasses the 30.5 million iPhones that Apple is believed to have sold.

“We are also expecting to see the biggest smartphone volumes ever shipped from one single vendor in one quarter, driven by strong demand of the Galaxy portfolio, particularly the Galaxy S II and S III,” IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo said in a statement cited by Reuters.

Samsung’s great timing and huge product line are credited to the high sales, as the company continues to launch a wide selection of devices that can be released year-round, while Apple has only the once-a-year iPhone to fall back on.

Apple will release its calendar second-quarter (fiscal third-quarter) results on July 24. Samsung will announce its results for the same period on July 27.
