WhatsApp Messenger, IMing Apps, Messaging Application

WhatsApp is certainly giving other messaging apps a run for their money on Windows Phone. While some apps haven’t been updated in over a year, WhatsApp has been rolling out update after update, and it doesn’t look like they’re planning on stopping anytime soon.

As reported by WPCentral, a version 3.0 release of WhatsApp Messenger is headed to WP8 devices in the near future, and it will be bringing the new background agent used by other Windows Phone apps. This should prevent certain “hanging” issues with the app running in the background and will also enable access to the app via Background Tasks as you can see from the image below.

WhatsApp Messenger for WP8, Windows Phone Apps, Free Messaging Apps

As was revealed in part in a WhatsApp beta leak earlier this month, larger images, new smileys, and chat history backup on startup are in the cards, as are notifications and the same fast resume that was added to LINE’s Windows Phone app just this week.

All in all, it looks to be an exciting update for WP8 users, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the final version brings to Microsoft’s mobile OS.
