WeChat, Asha Touch, Nokia

Everyone wants to keep in touch with their WeChat friends in any way possible, and now those on Nokia’s Asha Touch devices can join in on the talking action as well.

Tencent has recently revealed that WeChat will now be available on the smartphones, and we’ve seen it run specifically on the 308.

WeChat for Asha Touch will come with “Hold-to-Talk” in tow, allowing users to direct voice messages over a data or a mobile network. Users will also be able to chat with a maximum of 40 friends online via WeChat’s group chat feature.

“We are delighted to bring WeChat to Nokia Asha Touch smartphones to further extend the reach of this leading mobile social app,” said Dennis Hau, Head of Product Center, International Business Group, Tencent. “Nokia Asha Touch smartphone users can now enjoy a new way to connect with WeChat for free. Providing the best user experience is always our mission. While we aim to provide state of the art functions to our users, service quality is even a higher priority. We are excited about the launch and Nokia Asha Touch smartphone users will be pleased by the performance and experience brought by WeChat.”

As per usual, users can add friends via phonebook or WeChat ID. It may not hold the charm or beauty of Nokia’s Lumia lineup with WeChat on board to some, but there is certainly a market for such a combination. What do you think?
