Skype calling, Skype instant messaging, Voice Over IP

It may not be the biggest update the good people at Skype have pushed out, but we’re okay with updates that fix bugs and improve the customer experience, too, and that’s just what the Skype team delivered with Skype version 4.9 for Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. And hey, there was a neat addition: video messaging!

The addition of the video messaging feature — free and unlimited — really makes Skype a lot easier and more fun to use. Think of it as video voicemail that allows you to leave video messages for contacts whether they’re online or not, a perfect feature for people with very busy lives.

The latest update also brings some audio and video call stability improvements, a more reliable photo sharing ability, and “improved accessibility” for the aforementioned video messaging feature. Of course, where would a new update be without the usual round of various bug fixes and improvements? These were only general fixes, though, so may go unnoticed by the vast majority of Apple users.

The latest update is now available in iTunes.
