WhatsApp, Windows Phone 7.8, Windows Phone 8

It hasn’t exactly been a secret that WhatsApp was planning a major release for Windows Phone 8, and that very release has been rolled out today.

The new release, which carries the version number 2.10.488.0 goes beyond the norm and brings an exciting list of new features and tweaks to the popular messaging application that fans on Windows Phone will be delighted to have grace their Live Tiled lives.

Some of these features include:

  • Initiate voice calls from within the app
  • New background agent (music friendly!)
  • New smileys
  • Fixed notifications for users
  • Users can now see smileys on the double wide tile
  • Fast resume
  • Chat history back-up
  • Large images shown

As previously hinted, this most recent update for WhatsApp Messenger also includes support for Windows Phone 7.8 users as well.

If you’re ready to experience the new and improved WhatsApp Messenger for yourself, you can download it right now via the Windows Phone Store.
