WeChat, messaging apps, Tencent Messaging app

No sooner had WeChat surpassed 100 million downloads on Google Play did an update get released for the application that brings a number of new improvements to celebrate that milestone.

The new update is “redesigned faster and lighter” for Android devices, which means you won’t have to devote as much of your smartphone memory to the WeChat application and you’ll also enjoy a much faster experience when compared to the previous update.

Real-time location sharing joins WeChat’s list of features

In addition to being lighter and faster, the new WeChat also includes real-time location sharing with its built-in walkie talkie feature (similar to what users of Voxer have been enjoying for awhile) as well as the following:

  • Universal search including chat history search
  • Receive a special notification if you’re mentioned in a group chat
  • Share sticker sets with friends
  • Link and show your LinkedIn account
  • Better image browsing in chats
  • Calls connect more reliably and video and audio quality is improved

Many of these changes were also released in the last iOS update at the end of January.

If you haven’t already obtained it, you can download the new WeChat update via Google Play.
