WeChat, app services, Weixin app

Starting on the 16th of this month, WeChat users in Asia have been able to book cabs through EasyTaxi thanks to a partnership between the two companies, the first of many for the popular messaging platform.

So far in that partnership, 5,000 Singapore cab rides have been booked, showing not only how popular WeChat is in southeast Asia, but that messaging apps can be utilized for far more than simply messaging and entertainment.

Unfortunately, the service is available exclusively to Singapore users. It can be used by following the official EasyTaxi WeChat account by searching for username “EasyTaxiSGP.”

WeChat has also launched a partnership with fashionista group Yoox and we could see 58.com’s Craigslist-like service on the app as well. We’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date on any new WeChat partnerships that are announced in different markets.

WeChat is available for most major mobile operating systems. Don’t forget to join the WeChat discussion in the forums!
