Fring for iPhone, Fring for iPad, Fring for iPod

It’s been an awfully long time since anything major has visited the Fring app, a long-time favorite for people who have ever owned a classic Nokia, iPhone, or Android device. The last major update added South Sedan calling but we haven’t heard much of a peep since.

Fring was acquired by GENBAND for $50 million USD in mid-September last year and has since stayed below the radar as an independent entity, instead often being overshadowed by GENBAND’s other great services, which include multimedia and cloud communications solutions. Finally, though, it looks as though Fring could be stepping back into the spotlight.

GENBAND announced that Fring would be among the highlight products demonstrated alongside its “award-winning SMART OFFICE Unified Communications (UC) platform” at the 30th Annual CANTO Conference & Trade Exhibition, which will be taking place at Paradise Island in the Bahamas on August 10 – 13, 2014. CANTO brings together communications operators and vendors from more than 30 countries to highlight the latest in broadband innovations.

“We continue to experience a great deal of momentum in the Caribbean region with customers seeking real time communications solutions that will allow them to dramatically improve their customers’ communications experience,” said Brad Bush, Chief Marketing Officer at GENBAND. “GENBAND is leading the way in bringing to market innovative technologies such as operator OTT and WebRTC-based Unified Communications solutions that empower our customers to create new revenue streams and improve profitability. We are looking forward to showcasing these solutions and others to prospective and existing customers as well as partners at CANTO, one of the longest running conferences in our industry.”

fring continues to provide mobile group video chat, 2-way video chat, voice-only calls and text chat and is also marketing itself as an alternative or supplement to global roaming services since it helps to combat skyrocketing roaming charges.

We’ve contacted GENBAND for more information and we’ll be covering any fring-related highlights that come out of CANTO. fring is available for download on Android, iOS, and Ovi store.
