imo messenger, imo.im, chat and voip

In anticipation of Android L later this year, imo.im has fully embraced Google’s Material Design guidelines, giving the UI of its app a complete makeover:

“We created better visual hierarchy in the app through the use of deliberate colors choices, edge-to-edge imagery, new icons, and new typography using different weights and styles of Roboto,” the company wrote on its blog. “We also increased spacing for better scannability and comprehension of content.”

Below is a summary of the changes the social company has made:

  • Contact List
Updated with small visual improvements including increased row height with more white space and updated fonts.
  • Chat Window
Received a subtle makeover with added drop shadows, new icons and new fonts with increased spacing.
  • Voice and Video Calls
Support for immersive mode removes the status and navigation bars from your device to create a full-screen, immersive experience during video calls. Floating action buttons have been added to manage incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Group and Contact Profile
Both group and contact profiles have been updated with edge-to-edge imagery and more white space to immerse users within the app. We added bright, deliberate colors and floating action buttons.
  • Search
Search has been updated to show your five most recent searches. The action bar is now the same color as the search icon, and recent searches have been updated with new fonts and increased spacing.

You can get the new and improved imo.im app via Google Play download.
