Viber app, Viber VoIP, Viber messaging

In the land of messaging apps, WhatsApp still holds the crown with over 600 million active users, but it’s not without competition. WeChat stands at over 440 million users.

With the release of Rakuten’s latest financial report, Viber took the spotlight and it was revealed that the app now has 209 million monthly active users (MAU) as of October 2014, skyrocketing ahead of LINE app‘s 170 million MAU. When it comes to registered user IDs, Viber has 449 million.

Viber continues to grow rapidly worldwide

Viber continues to grow rapidly around the world. 12 percent of smart mobile device owners globally use Viber. The app’s strongest region is APAC, where about 30 percent of its users reside. Western Europe is second with just under 20 percent of Viber users residing there.

Rakuten says Viber is the top grossing iOS messaging app in 34 countries, and revenue for the popular messaging app could rise over the next three months. The app has integrated with Rakuten IDs in Japan, where the company recorded approximately US$1.29 billion in revenue this past quarter.

Even after being blocked in mainland China, it’s clear that Viber is continuing to be a top-performing messaging application and it’s available on every major mobile platform.
