BlackBerry is making it easier for BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) users to host private chats on their BlackBerry 10, Android and iOS mobile devices thanks to an update released within the last week from the Canadian software publisher and smartphone maker.

BBM’s new update also includes the following for private chats:

  • Message editing capabilities.
  • Timed messages and pictures.
  • The ability to retract messages and pictures.
  • The private chat feature is included in BBM’s new Privacy and Control Subscription, BlackBerry said, which replaces its existing Timed and Retracted Messages Subscription.

In addition, the following changes have also been made to the messaging software:

  • Additional sticker collection organization capabilities.
  • New iOS font size rendering capabilities to ensure an iPhone user’s BBM font size is based on the size selected in system settings.
  • “Quote message” feature that enables users to reference previous messages during a chat.

Finally, BlackBerry noted that current Timed and Retracted Messages subscribers will be automatically upgraded at no additional cost.
