LINE Lite, LINE messaging app, LINE usernames

Last month, LINE released its streamlined Lite messaging app in 11 launch countries, and nearly one month later, the company is unleashing the app everywhere. Almost.

Except for a “few specific regions” which include China, Cuba, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Myanmar, Sudan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

At less than 1MB in size, LINE Lite is a lightweight version of the LINE messaging app that focuses on bringing messaging to low-end smartphones rather than adding in complicated features as well as options like LINE Games and the various LINE apps, though LINE does hint that features like the Timeline may be forthcoming to LINE Lite.

LINE Lite installs in 1/20 the time of the standard version, and retains LINE’s core features of text, sticker, and image-based communication. Users can sign up for new accounts on LINE Lite, or carry over their existing LINE accounts.

Since the app was well-received by users according to LINE, and coupled with “strong demand” for LINE Lite, the messaging company decided to release LINE Lite to a larger audience. You can download LINE Lite via Google Play.
