WeChat logo, WeChat image, WeChat app

Hot on the heels of its initial launch on BlackBerry 10 devices, Tencent’s WeChat is finally coming out with a major update, the first since February (version 4.0) for the device, which brought a number of major features including HD calling, handset playback for audio, and video messaging.

Version 4.1 brings a smorgasbord of new features, including the ability to invite friends to WeChat group chat using QR codes, support for sending multiple images, location and screenshot sharing, message send cancellation, font size via the chat rooms and support for both Portuguese and Thai languages.

It’s true that many of these features have already seen the light of day on versions available for Android and iPhone, but it’s certainly an indication that the world’s third most popular platform is beginning to gain mindshare with developers. Now if WP users can just get those WeChat games.

The new WeChat can be downloaded in the Windows Phone Store. Curious to know more about WeChat? We’ve got a lot of valuable information on our official WeChat page.
