Bug fixes are one of those evils that developers have to contend with, particularly on the Android side of the spectrum. With quite a list of OS versions to support that isn’t as big a problem on other platforms, it’s often difficult to make sure apps work just right on all devices.

For those running WeChat on Android, you’re the lucky recipients of a new round of bug fixes meant to tackle a few of these issues.

The new version, 5.0.1, fixes the dreaded crash that occurred when viewing Moments in the Portuguese version. As the name implies, Moments is a neat way of capturing photographs that define different moments in your life and sharing them with your friends over the WeChat service.

The new update also fixed a problem that prevented some devices from playing voice messages. If you still experience problems playing these messages (or other issues not mentioned here), let us know in the comments. Other smaller bug fixes round out the latest version of WeChat, which can be downloaded directly via Google Play.

      Hi Ravi,

Android 4.4 KitKat is very new so I’m not aware of any incompatibility issues that exist (but of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

Is this a new install or was it installed while you updated? Have you tried rebooting your device or uninstalling and reinstalling the app?

  • Amolak

android 4.4 is not compatible at all with wechat. people nearby and shake doesnt work. video chat doesnt work.

same problem as stated by amolak, people nearby and shake doesn’t work. whenever you click on them, the screen blacks out for few seconds, and then the splash screen of we chat appears (the earth image). Have uninstalled and installed the app many a times but same results.

Let me know if there is any way i can get the log and send it to you guys which might help in uncovering the problem.
