Samsung GS2, Ice Cream Sandwich update, Truphone

If you’re using an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S2 in the UK with your mobile phone service or maybe your favorite app for free calls and messages and you’ve been waiting for that ever-elusive update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, it looks like the wait may be a bit longer.

To some users, it may appear that Samsung might be treating their SIM-free consumers unfairly by pushing this update out only after the carrier-specific consumers. While it may be frustrating, Samsung does have its reasons for delaying the update.

Speaking to CNET UK, a representative for Samsung confirmed that the reason for delaying the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich has everything to do with cross-carrier testing, compatibility and approval. This is understandable considering the “variety of networks” unlocked Galaxy S II phones can access, Truphone and WorldSIM included.

Here’s hoping the wait will be well worth it for international roaming SIM card users, even though none of us would wish to endure being unable to use a great phone like the Galaxy S II simply because it’s incompatible with our services.
