iPhone Apps, iPad Software, iPod Applications

Apple is wasting no time in showing the popularity of its iOS platform by shouting from the rooftops (or in this case the world wide web) that it has surpassed 45 billion total downloads across iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. For those of you who haven’t been keeping up, that’s roughly 5 billion over the last quarter.

$9 billion worth of revenue was delivered to developers in total on the platform, with $1 billion of that in the last quarter. Apple says the $1 billion is roughly what the company pays developers every quarter.

This news came during the company’s earnings call, and does paint a rosy picture for the platform despite Apple’s stock taking a huge tumble, losing more than half its worth since last September and the launch of the iPhone 5. This is also considering the growing competition being felt from the heavy-hitting Android and the popularity-gaining Windows Phone, which has continued to erode market share from its competitors.
