New iPhone, iPhone 5, AppleiPhone5

Apple’s iOS devices have always been popular, no question about that. Exactly how popular was demonstrated today when Apple announced that it had achieved 50 billion total downloads in its App Store, making up iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch downloads.

Apple had 40 billion only 18 weeks ago, then grew to 45 billion as of four weeks ago, which does indicate that the number of application downloads has been accelerating, which is good news for Apple and great new for the recipient of Apple’s customary grand prize: the person who had downloaded the 50 billionth app download. That recipient got a $10,000 USD iTunes voucher.

Apple may have been taking a lot of hits for its lack of innovation as of late, but these numbers prove that even though the products and services may be a bit on the boring and stale side, the company does have a fair share of followers, both in customers and developers alike.
