WeChat, WeChat Games, Pencil Pilot

Taking a page out of the playbooks of fellow Asian apps KakaoTalk and LINE, Tencent’s WeChat has started to push gaming on Android and continues to do so with WeChat version 5.1.

Pencil Pilot marks the third WeChat release on Android

The WeChat gaming service allows users to share achievements and compete with their fellow WeChatters and debuts with one game to start called Pencil Pilot. Access these games by first downloading the latest update here; the Games section is located on the Discover tab.

Pencil Pilot is very similar to many other space shooters on the market. The basic idea is to move your finger left and right across the screen to move your ship while it automatically fires on opposing ships headed down the screen toward you. You want to avoid getting hit by these ships while trying to nab as many as you can to beat your own high score as well as that of your friends.

Every two days, rankings are reset and you’ll have the opportunity to see how you compare to your friends in weekly rankings.

Pencil Pilot is available alongside other newly-launched games on Android, including Craz3 Match and 2Day’s Match, two matching games that should keep you entertained when you’re out and about with nothing else to do.

Alongside the new game comes a very familiar list of changes, including:

  • Create group chats with up to 100 members
  • Press stickers to preview their animation before purchasing
  • View message drafts

Get the new update via Google Play.
