Nokia 808 PureView Truphone

We were sad to discover that our readers in North America wouldn’t be getting one of our favorite highlights of Mobile World Congress, the Nokia 808 PureView.

According to Nokia’s developer site, the 41MP-toting Belle device will enjoy a global release… with North America as the only listed exception.

We assume this is in large part because carriers in North America aren’t expressing interest in subsidizing the device. Of course, that is never a problem for global GSM SIM card users, who always have the option of snagging an unlocked version if it catches their interest. Several e-tailers, for instance, currently offer the PureView on pre-order.

Global GSM consumers in the U.S. should at least be able to import it over to their side of the Atlantic soon enough, albeit at a much higher cost than the rest of the world.
