Windows Blue, Windows 8 RT, Windows 8.1

Okay, so it’s not really the name that matters when it comes to Windows Blue, Microsoft’s upcoming update to Windows 8 tablets and PCs. After all, it’s the features and the functionality that really matter, and as long as we’re able to use our favorite applications on the OS, we’d say its quite functional.

According to a report by ZDNet as well as the above screenshot of Build 9375 obtained from WinForum.eu, Microsoft is looking to change the name of its upcoming Windows Blue update “officially” to be Windows 8.1. This makes sense, as we’ve known for quite some time that the OS is not destined to be Windows 9, so some middle ground was needed to avoid customer confusion.

The report also suggests that Windows RT will simply be updated to Windows RT 8.1. You’ll want to take this information with the usual grain of salt, however, as Microsoft has not confirmed the validity of these reports. Still, it’s awful hard to ignore the evidence when it’s staring you in the face in the form of a screenshot.
